My CD/DVD drive isn't working on my laptop. How do i make it work again?

I have just bought a new Samsung S5600 phone, and it came with a disk to install all the software for it. But when i put the disk in my drive, it didn't work. I tried other disks after that and they didn't work aswell, so it can't be the samsung disk.

I took my laptop to college today to see if my friend could fix it. He said that the drive isn't installed. He tried to download it from the laptop manufacturers website but it didn't seem to work. He also tried a system repair from startup.

My CD/DVD drive is Lightscribe. My laptop manufacturer is Compaq and the product number is Presario CQ60 111EM.

If anyone can help, i will be grateful. If anyone has any alternatives for installing my phones driver aswell, please let me know. Thanks.

Could be a faulty cd drive, if you right click on my computer in the start menu and select manage and when that window (Management Console for the geeks out there) select device manager and you should see your CD/DVD player there. If its there then it's not a driver problem. if it's not there and you can't reinstall the driver then you might have to do a system recovery, which will wipe all your data from your hard drive so back it up first.

Try going to college and copying the phone cd onto a usb stick
