The ATI cards are fine with the Nvidia chipsets. But go for the Intel 1366 boards instead. You'll save a lot of money and you'll have a system that is much stronger, and longer lasting. Core i7 940 + the GA-EX58-EXTREME = Match made in heaven. It will tear your choice to shreds AND it will be $100's of dollars cheaper.

The HD 4870x2 that the other guy recommended is good, but only for single card solutions. Crossfire isn't that great, and 3-4 GTX 280's is better than 2 HD 4870's. A lot of games are optimised for Nvidia GPU's. Far Cry 2 for example. HD 4870x2 runs slower in Crossfire than it does with one card on FC2.
